Market regulator, Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI)
Market regulator, Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), has now allowed Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) based out of International Financial Services Centres (IFSC),GIFT City, to accept 100 percent contribution from Non-Resident Indians, Persons of Indian Origin and Resident Indians. In addition, SEBI has also approved a new option of transition to an alternative investment fund (AIF) structure by venture capital funds registered under the erstwhile SEBI (VC Regulations), 1996.
EU Digital Markets Act now enforceable on Internet Gatekeepers
Major internet companies are now required to comply with the European Union Digital Markets Act. The designated companies under the DMA are Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, ByteDance, Meta and Microsoft. These companies shall be subject to the DMA for their core platform services. The DMA imposes restrictions including processing user data for targeted advertisement without people’s consent, a major step recognizing user choice. A key feature of the DMA is Data portability and interoperability thus bringing in fair competition in the online space.

This year’s moot problem provided a challenge to legal minds to navigate the complexities of international law, environmental regulations, and the protection of human rights and prompts participants to grapple with intricate questions of governance, ethics, and responsibility.
We congratulate all participants of the India round of the Jessup Moot Court Competition and thank Ms. Mamta Tiwari, who heads the international arbitration and disputes resolution practice of the firm and who had successfully represented Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) in the first ever International arbitration initiated by an Indian Public Sector Undertaking (PSU), for accepting the invite to adjudicate as a Judge in the competition.
